Acetone

It's what's in nail polish remover. We use it when caulking waterslides (you gotta do that so they don't leak and stuff). We practically swim in the stuff.

Read the MSDS and notice the part about intoxication. Yeah - that part's true. It's not as much fun as it sounds.

My last trail job

It's been quite a while since I worked for the forest service, but something got me thinking of it and I've been looking at maps (online of course) of the places I've been in Alaska.

Follow the link to see one of the cabins that I stayed in while I was working for the Forest Service - yes, I stayed in this very cabin for 8 days while I worked on a bridge on a nearby trail. You can go there and stay for $35 or $25 /night depending on the time of year. Of course getting there will cost quite a bit more because it's smack dab in the middle of Tongass National Forest with no road access. You gotta go by float plane or boat (probably from Petersburg).

I don't know if the bridge I built is still there. It was a simple log bridge and I don't know what the life expectancy is on those.

PS - if you do go to Petersburg, let me know because I have some family there and you should meet them. It's worth the trip just to visit Petersburg. It would be awesome to live there. Perhaps I will live somewhere like that someday.

Another PS - dab is a funny word. It looks funny. it's almost qap (pronounced cap - I just made it up) upside down - if only there was an upside down compliment to 'a'.

On the Impossibility of Time Travel

Tom noticed this article on slashdot and pointed it out to me.

The idea is that time travel is logically impossible despite what the spacetime physicists say.
