Craig's List

Craig's List is pretty cool. It's like a free, nation-wide classifieds. People post all kinds of things for sale, etc. You can search by city/region.

boiler

I don't know if this is already a product, but someone should invent an electric boiling indicator that you'd place in a pot of water and beep when the water starts to boil.

Stay out of West Palm Beach.

The first time I went to West Palm Beach (for work), I rear-ended a Lexus because the brakes on our workvan are temperamental and it turned out to be a wasted trip because they weren't ready for us to do the work we were scheduled to do. The day wasn't a total waste, though because we went to the beach and chilled for a while.

The second time I went to West Palm Beach, we had to stay overnight and the cheapest Hotel we could find was $140/night. Then the work took longer than we expected - partially because we were two men short on account of the scheduling problem on the first trip. We had other things to do and had to split-up our crew. On the trip back to Orlando, I was totally drained and seriously dehydrated.

The night we got back, we went to a resort to work on another job. We worked until 10:30 pm and really didn't get anything accomplished - the sensors on the slide aren't working (it's a poor design), and all our efforts were essentially fruitless. One nice thing though was that one of the lifeguards gave me one of her tacos as she was leaving - it was the only thing I'd had to eat all day except for some breakfast sandwitches from dunken donuts at 9am. I ended up working 15.5 hours that day. I did get to ride the slide a few times to test it out - it didn't work, but it was fun to ride it anyway - I also surfed down it standing up a few times.

That's a big slide

This is one of the biggest water slides ever built
It's still in pieces, but you should be able to get some Idea of the size of it - look at the diameter of those tubes - When I stand inside, I can't reach the top.

update your blog

If you are reading this, have a blog, and haven't updated it yet this week, then go update it right now. It doesn't matter what you write - just write about how you're feeling right now or what happened to you today or whatever. Just write something.

new pics

I got some new pics of the slide I'm building, but I'm having some technical difficulties with my computer (I just built it and am still working on installing all the necessary software(linux and stuff)). So I should have the pics ready in a day or two, then I can post them here and email higher quality ones.

Anyways, I've been working hard and been pretty tired after work every day. Tomorrow should be a pretty light day though.

We're working with a Canadian from the water slide manufacturer - he's my age, but makes more than twice as much money as me. He's a pretty cool guy.

get a cheap keyboard

If you need a new keyboard, don't go to BestBuy.... go to the nearest Goodwill or Thrift Store, you can get a nice generic keyboard for around $5 with no annoying internet shortcut buttons or power buttons. Look for a ps/2 keyboard (the small round plug) with the smaller enter key (one row, not two) Those big enter keys are a real pain, but they keep making them for some reason. Tim's new keyboard (from BestBuy with power button) has the large enter key - it takes up the normal enter key location along with the normal backslash location. The backslash is located under the enter key. It's a real pain. Everytime I try to do a backslash, I hit enter - which sometimes causes some really annoying stuff to happen.
